Emir two DHA reporters, had been killed in an earthquake of 5.6 magnitude that occurred at 9.23pm on the night of 9 November 2011. The quake caused the collapse of Bayram Hotel in
Van province in eastern Turkey, leaving many trapped in the wreckage. The hotel was being used by journalists and the staff of the Red Cross. The two DHA journalists were among the press members in the hotel, and covering the fatal previous earthquake in
Van which had claimed the lives of 600 people. The lifeless bodies of the two DHA reporters were pulled out of the wreckage after an intensive work only days after the collapse of the hotel.The two journalists were remembered on graveside by colleagues, friends, and relatives, on the 3rd anniversary of their deaths. A memorial took place by Cem Emirs graveside in Tuncelis central Çığlı village on Sunday.
